In Napa County, daily life is shaped by the land. Vineyards stretch across hillsides, ranches hug the valley, and generations of farmers rise with the sun to tend the soil that sustains us all. Here, thriving farms and healthy ecosystems are partners. And at Napa RCD, we’re honored to work alongside the farmers and ranchers who make this landscape so vibrant.

Every day, our Agriculture Program supports the stewards of Napa’s working lands as they care for their crops, their soil, and the watershed that connects our community. Together, we’re finding practical, meaningful ways to nurture the land while securing a resilient future for the people who depend on it.

Much of our work begins with water. By improving water management and irrigation practices, we help growers make sure every drop is used wisely—keeping crops healthy, reducing waste, and protecting the precious water sources we all rely on. These small changes add up, creating working lands that are not only more efficient, but more resilient in the face of shifting weather and climate patterns.

Beneath the surface, our soil health guidance helps farmers understand the living world under their feet. With regenerative practices like cover cropping, and composting, soil becomes richer, stronger, and better able to support abundant harvests and flourishing ecosystems. Healthy soil holds water longer, stores more carbon, and nurtures plant life more fully, creating benefits that go far beyond the field.

But the story of a healthy farm doesn’t end at the edge of a vineyard row. Our work extends to protecting and restoring habitat on working lands, ensuring that streams, birds, pollinators, and other wildlife have space to thrive. Creating these pockets of refuge allows nature to coexist with agriculture, supporting biodiversity and strengthening the entire watershed.

Programs like our Train the Trainer: Soil Health & Irrigation Water Management Workshop Series bring all these efforts together, helping growers balance productivity with thoughtful, long-term stewardship. These workshops give farmers a roadmap—one that honors their goals while protecting the soil, water, and wildlife that sustain Napa County’s landscapes. It’s a collaborative process, rooted in respect for the people who work the land and for the natural systems that make that work possible.

Through every partnership, every assessment, and every field visit, we’re reminded that caring for the land is a shared responsibility—and a shared joy. When farms thrive, our communities thrive. When ecosystems flourish, the watershed grows stronger. And when we work together, the future becomes something we can shape together.

Why Your Support Matters:

This essential work would not be possible without the support of our community. When you give through the Give!Guide, your support allows us to provide technical guidance, fund habitat projects, and strengthen the connection between agriculture and a healthy, resilient watershed for everyone —one vineyard, one ranch, and one creek at a time.

The campaign is open from now until December 31, 2025—every donation, no matter the size, makes a real impact.

A Gift for Every Donation

The Monkey Flower Group will gift a small floral bouquet to every donor who makes a donation to Napa RCD through the Give!Guide. Donors who give $50 or more will receive five small flower arrangements.

Thank you for standing with us as we care for Napa’s land, water, soil, and wildlife. Your contributions and support are what keep this work growing.

Stay tuned for next week’s feature on our Community and Youth Program!
