Oak Monitoring

The Oak Monitoring Team is on hiatus as we update our protocols and move to a new monitoring platform.
Stay tuned for news in Fall of 2026!

Over the past 10+ years, volunteers and school groups have teamed up with Napa RCD to plant oaks in a variety of locations around Napa County.

Oak Monitors visit publicly accessible planting locations and use an app (on either an iPad or their phone) to take GPS points and record observations about how the trees are doing.

To be part of the Team, you need the following tools:

• A smart device with cell reception (phone or tablet)
• The GIS Collector App downloaded on your device
• A brief training with Napa RCD
• The brief “How to” guide that walks you through using the app
• Sturdy shoes (sometimes the plantings are surrounded by weeds) and your favorite outdoor adventure outfit!
