The Napa, Solano, and Yolo Prescribed Burn Associations are hosting a prescribed fire introductory training series that will prepare attendees to safely and effectively participate in prescribed fires.
Topics covered in the training series are:
- Fire behavior
- Fuel Types
- Weather
- Topography
- Hazards
- Risk Management
- Burn Planning
- Ignitions
- Holding
- Spot fires
- Hand tools
- Radio Communication
This training series will not feature any live fire demonstrations and does not offer certification. The training is intended for folks with little to no prescribed fire experience or anyone who needs a refresher on prescribed fire basics. The training is open to anyone interested in participating in or conducting prescribed fire including oak woodland landowners, ranchers, prospective volunteers, and the public.
The series features two pre-recorded presentations, one interactive virtual session, and one in-person field day (with an option three options, one located in each county). After watching the pre-recorded sessions, participants mustare encouraged to attend the virtual interactive session to ask questions and go more in-depth on some topics presented in the prerecorded sessions in preparation for the field day.

Pre-Recorded Virtual Trainings:
Three in-person field days are offered in each of the three counties. Folks are welcome to attend any in-person field day that fits their schedule, regardless of county affiliation. Please register for ONE field day at the link below:
- Solano County Field Day: Saturday, August 29, 2026 in Green Valley, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
- Napa County Field Day: Saturday, September 12, 2026 near City of Napa, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
- Yolo County Field Day: Saturday, September 26, 2026, western Yolo County (location TBD), 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
