Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service at the Huichica Creek Sustainable Demonstration Vineyard
Ten students from five high schools (American Canyon, Vintage, Napa, Justin-Siena, and New Tech high schools) facilitated and guided three service projects involving bluebird habitat and integrating pest management, native wildflower insectory diversity, and encouraging composting at home to reduce waste.
- Installed 12 western bluebird nesting boxes
- Seeded 1 acre of mixed vineyard/orchard/wetland with native wildflower grasses and annual flowers (California poppy, goldfields, miniature lupine, tansy-leaved phacelia, and blue wild rye grass)
- Educated 25 volunteers about home composting
- 5 volunteers even took home materials to build their own compost pile!
A BIG Thank You to all of the students and volunteers!!
