Biography

Danielle joined Napa RCD in 2019. Much of her professional background is in environmental education, having worked as an interpretive ranger in Colorado, a wetlands ecology and conservation educator in the California central valley, and a camp naturalist in Point Reyes. She is certified in Project WET, Project Learning Tree, and is an AEOE Certified Environmental Educator. Danielle also provides technical assistance in Napa RCD’s forestry program. Danielle is interested in topics such as cultural and prescribed burning, fuels mitigation, and ecological post-fire responses/regeneration.  When not enjoying her time at work, Danielle loves camping, rock climbing, hiking, and live music at local venues.

Biography
Bill has over 20 years of experience in natural resource management. He has a B.S. in Natural Resources Planning and Interpretation from Humboldt State University and has been a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) for the past 7yrs. Bill joined the RCD in 2011 and has helped to implement the LandSmart® Conservation Planning and On-the-Ground programs. His primary responsibilities are related to; erosion control planning for unpaved roads and vineyard properties, reviewing vineyard erosion control plans and conducting associated site visits, and overseeing restoration projects, including but not limited to rural road improvement projects, fish barrier removal projects, stream restoration projects, and Forest Health improvement projects. Before joining the RCD, Bill worked for Pacific Watershed Associates, a watershed consulting firm, for 10 years as a project manager, working with various landowners and agencies throughout central and northern California to identify and treat various anthropomorphic sediment sources and hillslope instability issues. Bill also spent 7 years as a wildland firefighter with the USFS, NPS, and BLM, working to suppress wildfires and implement/monitor management ignited prescribed fires throughout the western United States.

Biography
Paul has over 18 years of professional experience in environmental science. As Senior Hydrologist, he manages a variety of water resource monitoring and assessment projects including maintenance of hydrologic gauging stations, stream stage and flow monitoring, precipitation monitoring, hydrologic modeling, stream channel surveying, water quality monitoring, and stream channel restoration monitoring. He also assists with RCD’s fisheries monitoring program and the LandSmart® Conservation Planning and On-the Ground programs. Prior to coming to the RCD in 2004, he spent seven years with an environmental consulting firm conducting all aspects of soil and groundwater assessment and remediation of leaking underground storage tank sites. Paul earned his B.S. in Earth Sciences from University of California, Santa Cruz. Paul enjoys boating, hiking, camping, skiing, and home improvement.

Biography

Ali joined Napa RCD in 2022 to oversee its forestry programming, supporting forest health and wildfire resiliency in Napa County and the region more broadly. She is eager to apply her passion for strategic program development and implementation—and love of all things trees—to the growth of Napa RCD’s forestry programming. Through her prior experiences leading collaborative research programs, Ali has gained expertise in project and grant management, partnership development, and staff supervision and professional development. Ali received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Tulane University and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Outside of work, Ali enjoys hiking, camping, gardening, cooking, volunteering at Little Moon Farm, and learning about the latest climate change solutions.

Biography

Monique joined Napa RCD in 2024. Having specialized in community engagement since 2019, her previous work history has centered on uplifting underrepresented voices in the natural and cultural resources field. Prior to joining the team at Napa RCD, Monique’s experiences include volunteer and youth program coordination, bilingual strategic communications and marketing , policy creation,  DEI centered training facilitation, and partnership building for the National Park Service. She is a member of the National Parks Conservation Association’s Next Generation Council which brings together young changemakers who explore effective methods of engaging youth in national park advocacy and protection. She is also a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association of Interpretation. Monique has a B.A in English Literature and Mass Communications from the University of Florida and is a Certified Interpretive Guide for natural and cultural resource programming. She is excited to grow Napa RCD’s community reach and hopes to strengthen collaborative processes between people and their natural surroundings. Monique grew up in Miami, Florida and enjoys birding, camping, gardening, and playing the bass.

Biography

Miguel García has been assisting farmers implement sustainable farming practices in California since 2016. He has Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and a B.S in Chemistry from UC Riverside. Miguel is also a Certified Crop Adviser. He provides on-farm technical assistance and planning related to soil health, carbon sequestration, erosion control, and water management. He also designs bilingual educational programs aimed at providing local growers and farmworkers with valuable information on topics related to sustainable agriculture. Miguel believes the future of our local water resources and the world’s food security lies heavily on the implementation of sustainable farming practices today. By working one-on-one with growers and farm workers, he believes true change is possible. Outside of work, Miguel enjoys hiking, cooking, playing bass and guitar, and reading.

Biography

Frances has been working locally in the field of natural resources since 2007. She has a PhD in Plant Evolutionary Ecology from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Biology and Geology from Indiana University. She has a strong background in ecology, water quality, agricultural conservation, public education, and program administration. Frances oversees all of the LandSmart® programs including Conservation Planning, On-the-Ground, Water Management and the LandSmart® for Kids education programs as well as RCD’s volunteer and outreach programs. Since she joined the RCD in 2007, Frances has been involved with a diverse set of programs and initiatives, and she now plays an integral role in program development and fundraising, as well as collaboration with partner organizations. Frances enjoys hiking, botanizing, and all things food-related.

Biography

Ashley joined Napa RCD in 2019. She has a Master’s in Environmental Education from Western Washington University and experience running youth and adult education programs, volunteer coordination, organizational communications, and implementation of field and classroom outreach programs. Ashley is building out and managing Napa RCD’s volunteer programs, allowing local residents to get involved with local stewardship. In her free time, Ashley loves tending her houseplants, embroidery, and learning about her surroundings by hiking.

Biography
Eric coordinates K-12 school programs consisting of partnerships where students meaningfully explore actions which support environmental and community health. Eric holds a B.S. in Forest and Natural Resource Management from the SUNY – College of Environmental Science & Forestry in Syracuse, NY and additionally served for 1 year with the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP) in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Eric was awarded the Hilary Zunin CanDo Spirit Award for community service in 2015, and enjoys volunteering with Napa Young Farmers & Ranchers, Napa Humane Society, and supporting restorative justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at RCDs across California.

Biography

Lisa joined Napa RCD in 2024. She previously worked in Marin County for both the Parks and Public Works Departments on environmental compliance and permits, construction monitoring, mitigation, and wildlife monitoring and conservation projects. Before that she worked in various parts of California, including for the National Park Service, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and in consulting, and in the Midwest for both state and county natural resources departments. She earned her B.S. degree in zoology and psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her M.A. in conservation biology from Columbia University. She loves planting native plants that support wildlife of many families.

Biography

Lucas Patzek became Napa RCD’s Executive Director in 2018. He believes deeply in the District’s collaborative and non-regulatory approach to inspiring behavior change, and has experience working with similar Districts across California and Washington. Prior to joining Napa RCD, he served as County Director and Agriculture & Natural Resource Faculty with the Cooperative Extension Service in Washington, and as the Associate Executive Director of the Sonoma County-based non-profit Ag Innovations. He has also been involved in agricultural development efforts in Algeria, Cambodia, Mexico, and the European Union. Lucas received a Ph.D. in Crop Science from Washington State University and a B.S. in Biology from University of California at Santa Cruz. Outside of work he’s an art enthusiast and enjoys exploring wild spaces, growing delicious food, and doing it with friends and family.

Biography
Martin Perales joined Napa RCD in 2021 and has been studying aquatic ecosystems since 2009. He has a B.S. in Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology from UC Davis and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Previously, Martin worked at UC Davis’ Center for Watershed Sciences and UW-Madison’s Center for Limnology, where he studied everything from environmental drivers of fish communities in the California Delta to drought impacts on habitat and fish communities in northern Wisconsin lakes. Additionally, Martin has studied freshwater fish in remote rivers in Thailand and Alaska, highly urbanized rivers in Puerto Rico, the Columbia River, and now aquatic ecosystems in the Napa Valley. Martin will oversee the RCD’s fish monitoring efforts in the Napa River. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, birding, kayaking, camping, backpacking, gardening and whittling.

Biography

Ruby has been working in environmental conservation since 2009. She has a M.S in Conservation Biology from Antioch University New England and a B.A in Environmental Studies from Prescott College. Ruby has worked with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (Crops Pathology and Genetics Research Unit at UC Davis) and the USDA Forest Service on the East Coast and in Puerto Rico. Her areas of expertise are in conservation planning and implementing restoration projects. Since joining Napa RCD in 2019, Ruby has helped many farmers complete Farm Conservation Plans, Carbon Farm Plans, and Pollinator Habitat Plans. Ruby also works with landowners to improve erosion control practices and is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). Ruby is passionate about working with landowners and managers to create habitat, protect water quality, and improve soil health. Ruby grew up in Puerto Rico and is fluent in Spanish. In her free time, Ruby enjoys surfing, fishing, cooking, crafting, and being out in nature.

Biography

Alex grew up in Sonoma and graduated from Napa New Technology High School. He has a B.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology from the University of Nevada Reno and joined the Napa RCD in 2022. Prior to joining the RCD Alex worked for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever in Arkansas and Kansas. During his time in Arkansas Alex worked on a prescribed burn crew and assisted with projects improving wildlife habitat in oak woodlands and oak-hickory hardwood forests. In Kansas Alex partnered with the Natural Resource Conservation Service to write grazing management plans for landowners enrolled in NRCS programs and deliver technical assistance about increasing rangeland resilience to drought. Outside of work Alex enjoys reading, hiking, and sports.

Biography
Frank Bradley joined the NRCS in September 2021 as a Direct Hire Biologist. Prior to NRCS, Frank worked at the USBR as a Park Ranger. His current work is primarily centered around threatened and endangered species in and around Napa County including the California red-legged frog and northern spotted owl. He also conducts preconstruction surveys, worker education talks, mapping for projects, and completion of various environmental compliancy documents. Other assignments include performing forestry inventory surveys, assisting with cultural resources surveys, writing forest management plans, and completing cultural resources forms. In the future, Frank will also work to become qualified to remove threatened and endangered species from work sites, permitting and conservation planning. During his free time, Frank enjoys fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family including his dog Mellow.

Biography
Chip joined NRCS in 2001 and provides technical and educational assistance to the community. He assists landowners with regulatory consulting, stream restoration, range improvement and management, vineyard soil protection and cover crops, and financial assistance. His formal studies include geology, geomorphology, hydrology, and biology. Chip also has a BS in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin.

Biography

Evelyn is the NRCS District Conservationist for Napa County. She joined the Napa NRCS staff in 2019, and works with local landowners to develop conservation solutions for their properties and assists landowners applying for NRCS conservation programs. Evelyn works across a variety of land uses, from cropland and rangeland to forestland. Evelyn has a BS in Environmental Resource Sciences from UC Davis and a MS in Forest Resources from Clemson University.

Ben is the NRCS Field Engineer for Napa County. He joined the staff in December 2023 and supports staff with projects that require engineering practices across a wide variety of land uses. Ben has a BS in Engineering Physics from Fordham University and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.

Biography

Noelle Takamori is from Honolulu, Hawaii and San Diego, CA. She earned her Bachelor’s in Biology from Norwich University in Vermont. Noelle previously worked for the Forest Service on the Eldorado National Forest where she surveyed for Spotted Owls. Some of her other experience includes working as a Forestry Technician on Travis Air Force Base and working as a Fisheries Technician collecting the snouts of adult chinook salmon in San Francisco and tagging juvenile chinook at 4 different hatcheries in Northern California. Her hobbies include learning to garden and listening to podcasts.

Biography

Erika joined the NRCS staff in Napa in 2020. She works with local landowners to create conservation plans for their property and then assists them in applying for and navigating federal financial assistance programs. In Napa, Erika has developed conservation plans that include practices targeting forest health and fuel reduction, prescribed grazing, vineyard cover crop, native hedgerows, and irrigation water management. Erika has a B.A. in Biology and German from Austin College and a MSc in Land Reclamation and Remediation from the University of Alberta in Canada.
