School Programs
Napa RCD’s school programs connect K-12 teachers and students in Napa County schools with our local environment. Each year we connect over 1,300 students with their home watershed.
Class and field experiences are designed by Napa RCD’s professional environmental educators. Students gain comfort and familiarity with the outdoors, develop awareness of environmental issues, and learn about actions they can take to steward our environment for future generations. Older students learn about the varied careers and career pathways related to the environment.
Elementary Programs
Napa RCD’s Elementary Environmental Education programs increase student connection to nature as a building block towards a sense of stewardship. There are two tracks, Kids for Monarchs and Wild Napa Youth, designed for specific grade levels and offered for whole grade bands at schools throughout Napa County.
Kids for Monarchs
Overview
Kids for Monarchs is a free 1st – 2nd grade environmental education program that connects students to nature. During the program, students build awareness of monarch biology and conservation. Students participate in hands-on and kinesthetic activities held both indoors and outdoors.
The program consists of a 1-hr class visit.
For more information and check out the Napa County Monarch Education Project page.
Wild Napa Youth
Overview
Wild Napa Youth is a free 4th grade environmental education program that connects students to nature. During the program, students have opportunities to learn about the uniquely high level of biodiversity in the Napa River Watershed and build connections to the natural world around them. During indoor and outdoor activities, students will use nature journaling and exploration tools to practice their observation, investigation, and reflection skills.
The program consists of 2 class visits and 1 field trip for each participating class.

High School Programs
Napa RCD’s High School Environmental Education programs increase student connection to nature as a building block towards a sense of stewardship, while also offering the opportunity to connect with conservation careers.
Green Futures Program
Overview
Green Futures is a free 9th-12th grade environmental education program that connects students to nature and conservation careers. Students explore how community open spaces are cared for by a community, balancing the needs of diverse residents. Opportunities for students to get involved will be especially highlighted. Classes and their teachers will work with staff who are professionally and culturally relevant to students to engage them in environmental career skills development and beneficial time outdoors.
This program consists of pre-classroom content, a classroom session, and a field trip to a local park. Students will be engaged in discussion, experience mindful time in nature, and work alongside environmental professionals.
