St Helena Community Forest Planting Day
Napa RCD is teaming up with the City of St Helena for a workday at the future site of the St Helena Community Forest! Help us create a more diverse and natural forest by adding native trees and shrubs to this area.
Our plan is to focus on planting native trees and shrubs to increase diversity within the Community Forest footprint. Trees will focus on species like coast live oak, holly leaf cherry, California buckeye, and California ash. Shrubs will focus on things like toyon, ceanothus, coyote brush, coffeeberry, snowberry, manzanita, and flannel bush.
What to expect: holes will be pre-dug. Volunteers will be helping to put nursery-grown trees and shrubs in the ground and backfilling holes with shovels.
What to bring: If you’ve got a favorite pair of garden gloves, bring them. If not, we’ll have plenty to share! Bring your water bottle filled with water- we’ll have a bottle refill station ready to go for you if you need it. Bring a snack if you think you might need it.
What to wear: June can be pretty warm in St Helena- please wear long pants and sturdy shoes, and other clothing appropriate for the weather. We always suggest a hat and sunscreen or shirt to protect you from the sun!
