June First Saturday Volunteer Event- Alston Park

Join Napa RCD at Alston Park for our June First Saturday Volunteer Event!

As you might have heard, we’re working hard to outsmart the increasing vole population in Alston Park, and we need your help to make an impact on the ground.

Late spring and summer is when the voles come out in full force, so we will be headed out to add cages to the trees that survived last summer.

What’s the Plan? Our plan is to evaluate each of the trees that has been cleared of grasses and rocks from directly around it, reflag if needed, and add a biodegradable spiral protector to the tree. This is part of a tree-saving process that was started with volunteers in June of 2024, and will need to happen for all of our plantings in Alston Park, including early plantings from 10 years ago. We will not accomplish all of this in one work day! This will be an ongoing year-over-year project as we respond to the population cycle of the voles.

What to expect: Napa RCD will provide all training and bring all tools including gloves, rakes, flagging, and biodegradable tubes. Once you make it up the hill to our work area, there will be tasks for all ability levels. Folks should be prepared to be walking on uneven terrain for the majority of the work day.

What to wear: Sturdy shoes and clothes appropriate for the weather.

Where to meet: Please park at the Trower Ave entrance to Alston Park and head up the hill to the project area. Google Maps Location For Parking Is Here. Follow the sign once you arrive.

This is part of our First Saturday Volunteer Events series, and we’re thrilled to be growing this tradition with you! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for a day of community fun and a chance to make a lasting impact on Napa’s green spaces.
